ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michael Palmer is self-taught artist living in Tucson, AZ.  He started drawing at a very young age, experimenting early on with a variety of art mediums.  Frequent moves throughout his career drove him to choose more easily portable mediums, such as pencil, pen & ink, and digital creation platforms.

His degrees in Environmental Science, Military Weather Technology, and Teaching, as well as his love of birding and nature photography have shaped his transition to nature art over the last few years.

"My creative passion started as a way to pass the time on family road trips.  Drawing for me is highly therapeutic, allowing me to unwind and reset from life’s stresses.

As an avid nature photographer, I create mainly from my own photos.  I prefer working in mediums that require minimal prep or clean-up, providing me maximum flexibility for my busy schedule.  I prefer working in colored pencil or pen & ink because both mediums cater to my slow, deliberate pace and provide the precise control needed for my preferred level of detail.

I'm continually building my knowledge of fundamentals such as form, composition and color, and I’m always searching for new techniques and materials.  The joy I felt 40 years ago when I first began my artistic journey is what keeps me going today.
